Lake Jipe for us, Itself & Others

96% of Lake Jipe residents depend on fishing and fishing related activities for economic sustenance. These put pressure on the lake and with the reduced fish yields poverty levels are increasing.

Kaa Echo Investments we offer alternative source of income to the community through:

  • Poverty Alleviation (“One Home, One Job”): Our localized employment framework ensures vulnerable lakeside households are provided with a consistent, dignified daily income alternative to overfishing.
  • Gender & Youth Equity: We champion inclusive green supply chains. Women lead our harvesting networks and bio-coal distribution channels, while local youth manage factory manufacturing, engineering, and logistics.
  • Educational Value: 90% of the children don’t get to finish or start their secondary school education due to parents who are mainly fishermen unable to raise school fees for them. In Jipe we have intelligent school-dropout not out of will, but out of financial reality. And this reality is now changing!
  • Species Preservation: We are actively reviving the Asilia (Jipe Tilapia) population by promoting sustainable pond aquaculture to restock the ecosystem.  and add an extra source of income to our fathers and brothers. This commercial viable fish greatly increases income to our fathers & brothers.
  • Fostering environmental friendly decent cost effective homes: Kaa Eco building materials make it easier for everyone in Jipe to have a decent home now. Using sustainable building materials, offering better thermal insulation in rural housing, particularly when mixed with clay, way better homes than the ones we grew up in.

Benefits of Kaa Eco Investments in Lake Jipe

  • Reduces Pressure on Forests: By providing an alternative fuel source, Typha reduces reliance on firewood and charcoal, helping to decrease deforestation. Bearing in mind it takes 10 kg of wood to produce 1 kg of charcoal.
  • Improves Livelihoods: It creates jobs in harvesting, processing, and construction.
  • Environmental Cleanup: Clearing the Typha helps restore the lake biodiversity.
  • Restoring of Jipe tilapia; maintaining and benefiting from our heritage-Asilia.
